Taegeuk Ee Jang

Taegeuk Ee Jang, the second form in the Taegeuk series of Taekwondo, consists of 18 movements and is associated with the trigram Tae (☱), representing the lake—symbolizing inner strength and outer calm. The form begins in the ready stance (Joon Bi).

Steps

  1. Turn left 90° into a walking stance (left foot forward) → left low block.
  2. Step forward into a front stance (right foot forward) → right middle punch.
  3. Turn right 180° into a walking stance (right foot forward) → right low block.
  4. Step forward into a front stance (left foot forward) → left middle punch.
  5. Turn left 90° into a walking stance (left foot forward) → right outside block.
  6. Step forward into a walking stance (right foot forward) → left outside block.
  7. Turn left 90° into a walking stance (left foot forward) → left low block.
  8. Right front snap kick → land in a front stance (right foot forward) → right high punch.
  9. Turn right 180° into a walking stance (right foot forward) → right low block.
  10. Left front snap kick → land in a walking stance (left foot forward) → left middle punch.
  11. Turn right 90° into a front stance (left foot forward) → left low block.
  12. Right front snap kick → land in a walking stance (right foot forward) → right middle punch.
  13. Left front snap kick → land in a walking stance (left foot forward) → left middle punch.
  14. Right front snap kick → 90° turn left → walking stance (left foot forward) → left high block.
  15. 270° counter-clockwise turn left → walking stance (left foot forward) → right outside block.
  16. 180° turn right → walking stance (right foot forward) → left outside block.
  17. 90° turn left → walking stance (left foot forward) → left low block → return to ready stance.

Taegeuk Ee Jang emphasizes fluid motion and balanced transitions, reflecting the calm surface and hidden depth of a lake. The trigram ☱ symbolizes joy, openness, and internal composure—qualities expressed through relaxed yet precise technique.
