Taegeuk Pal Jang
Taegeuk Pal Jang, the eighth and final form in the Taegeuk series, is performed by 1st Geup (high red belt) students in World Taekwondo (WT) Taekwondo.
It represents the trigram Tae (☱), symbolizing the lake — serenity, reflection, and depth beneath a calm surface.
The form contains 27 movements featuring combinations of high-level techniques and a dual Kihap!, demonstrating maturity and control.
Opening Sequence
- Begin in ready stance (Joon-bi).
- Step forward with left foot into left back stance → double fist middle block.
- Slide left foot sideways into left front stance → reverse middle punch (right hand).
- Left double front kick with Kihap! → land in right front stance → right inside block → double punch (left then right).
- Step forward into right front stance → right middle punch.
Mountain Blocks and Uppercuts
- Turn left 270° → left low block + right single mountain high block in reverse front stance (look toward low block direction).
- Move into left front stance → grab opponent’s collar with left hand → slow right uppercut to chin.
- Double step backward → turn 180° → right low block + left single mountain high block in reverse front stance.
- Move into right front stance → grab collar with right hand → slow left uppercut to chin.
- Turn left 270° → left double knifehand block in back stance.
- Move left foot into left front stance → right middle punch.
Tiger Stances and Palm Blocks
- Right front kick → land with right foot behind left → step back → right tiger/cat stance → right low palm block.
- Turn left 90° → left tiger/cat stance → left double knifehand middle block.
- Left front kick → right middle punch in front stance.
- Step back into left tiger stance → left low palm block.
- Turn right 180° → right tiger stance → right double knifehand middle block.
- Right front kick → left middle punch in front stance.
- Step back into right tiger stance → right low palm block.
Final Combinations
- Turn right 90° → right double fist low block in back stance.
- Left double front kick with Kihap! → land in right front stance → right inside block → double punch (left then right).
- Turn left 270° → left single knifehand middle block in back stance.
- Move left foot into left front stance → reverse elbow strike (right arm) → right backfist → left middle punch.
- Turn right 180° → right back stance → right single knifehand middle block.
- Move into right front stance → reverse elbow strike (left arm) → left backfist → right middle punch.
- When “Bah Ro” is called, turn left 90° → return to ready stance (Joon-bi).
Taegeuk Pal Jang embodies the calm yet powerful energy of the lake (Tae ☱).

The form begins and ends at the same point, symbolizing completion of the Taegeuk journey and readiness for black belt advancement.
